DYI Tips

We understand that some of you like to take care of your lawn or perhaps hiring a contractor is not in your budget. So here are a few tips to follow to keep your lawn looking great.

Cutting your grass- Cut your grass weekly at a height of about 3 1/2". This height will allow for deeper, stronger roots to keep your grass green and lush through times of drought. Tall grass also makes it harder for weeds to take root in your lawn.Cutting it weekly means your not cutting off too much at a time. When cutting, you don't want to cut off more than 1/3 of the blade. Cutting of more can stunts its growth and may cause disease.

Keep your blade sharp- A sharp blade will cut your grass instead of tear. Tearing your grass can lead to disease and browning.

How sharp? Just slightly sharper than a butter knife. Too sharp and you can easily damage the blade tip and and this will also cause tearing.

Change your pattern- Mow in different directions each time you mow to avoid your grass lying down and looking flat.

Mulch- As long as you cut weekly, your clippings should be short enough to leave on your lawn without being an eye sore. Clippings will feed your lawn nutrients and also help in inhibiting weed growth.
